Sweet logo of mine…

When designing an application, whether online or off, creating a new logo is often part of the process. For a new designer this can be quite a daunting task…especially if you are one who can’t draw (*raises hand*).

When I come to this particular crossroad, I find that inspiration of looking at other logo sites is good. To help with this, I have culminated a list of helpful sites for logos. Some are logo galleries, others are logo generators, and there are a few articles on logo design thrown in for good measure. Enjoy.

Galleries
LogoLog - This site shows several logos for various types of companies. What is particularly cool is that on several of their entries they show some of the sketches that led up to the final design. I find it very helpful to get a glimpse into the process.

LogoSauce - Think of this one as the community site of logos. These are user submitted designs that can be rated and reviewed by the community members. Kinda cool.

LogoDesignHistory - This is just a section of logoorange, but it is really great in seeing the history of logos for some of the biggest companies. A must see.

LogoPond - This site is similar to LogoSauce above. Its another community site where you can view and comment on the various logos. Has a nice look to it to boot.

elogodesign - Now personally, I am not a big fan of the logo creating sites (you just can never be too sure how original they are…right Dan? :P), however, you they usually have a big portfolio for you to get inspired from…such as this one.

The Logo Homepage - This is a big cloud of web 2.0 inspired icons (its in beta…natch).

Articles
11 trends that will define logo design in 2007. This is basically a take on what is coming this year in the art of logo design. Definitely a good article to take a look at if you are trying to design a “current” looking logo. There is some risk to that however…as you can see with all the starbursts and such with the web 2.0 look.

Constructing the Perfect Logo - this is a great article from Devlounge (one of my favorite sites by the way) that explains the process for creating good logo. A great read.

Generators
Web 2.0 logo generator - This is the quick way to create a web 2.0 logo.

Flickr logo generator - Not sure why you would want to really, but just in case you want your logo to look exactly like flickr, this site will do it for you.

Text logo creator - This is a nice generator if you are only using text. However, I would stay away from the animated ones…looks a bit too “myspacey”.
