Hey, just wanted to point some love at Smashing Magazine’s Best of April 2007 article.
For those of you unfamiliar with the Smashing website, they are famous for their lists…lots of lists…
I always like their “Best of” lists because there are always a couple (or more) sites that I haven’t seen before. Those quickly go into my blogmarks account for later reference.
Anyways, if you have a few, go check it out.

So I gotta Xbox 360 recently, and when I got it the guy at Gamestop gave me this long list of instructions on how to make sure that I don’t damage it, or let it overheat, or breath on it funny.
Then a couple of weeks later I got NBA Street: Homecourt (cool game by the way) and the dude at Best Buy gave me this spiel about how the DVD’s are very prone to getting scratched and you should get the “extra protection”…blah blah blah.
Then I saw this shirt from nerdyshirts.com and it made me reminisce about the old NES I had when I was a kid.
Not working? Slap it a few times.
Game acting funky? Don’t forget to blow in it.
Get mad at your game? Throw the controller against the wall.
There was absolutely nothing you could do to that thing to make it break…well you could set it on fire or something, but no normal beating would damage it.
However, my Xbox, which must be 4 times as expensive, will start to freakout if I even look at it the wrong way. Don’t get me wrong, I love my new toy…but there is something to be learned by the old NES.
Ah the memories…

Server transfer is complete.
Happened a lot faster than I expected. Nice.
11 May, 2007
Hey everyone, I just wanted to let you know that over the weekend I am planning on switching servers for the site. I am ramping up my web development business and with that comes a server upgrade. So if you notice anything funky (hopefully there won’t be), then that is probably the reason.

Its time to have another Design Breakdown. Now for those of you new to the site, a Design Breakdown is where I take a random site that I like for one reason or another and take it apart to get a feel for the flow, tone, etc. Basically, I detail why I think the site is great, and what things could make it even better.
So, for this breakdown, I chose a new, but very popular site freelanceswitch.com. For those of you who don’t know, freelanceswitch is a blog that releases articles on…wait for it…freelancing. If you are a freelancer of any type, it is really worth a look.

I know you are all waiting with baited breath (never understood that little saying…someone sitting around with minnows in their mouths? Weird.) to hear the winner of the Comment Contest.
So without further ado…the winner is…
Jon.
Jon made a very insightful comment about the reboots.
So there you have it! Jon, congratulations, and I hope you nail someone in the face with your USB Rocket Launcher!
Also, I will be running a contest of some sort or another pretty regularly. Just my little way of saying thanks to all the readers and commenters out there.

60% Geek
Today I “stumbled upon” some sites and found a little quiz over at mingle2.com. Turns out I am about 60% geek. Got the star trek, star wars, gaming, and browser questions, but I missed some of the more hardcore ones. I gotta say, I am surprised I am not higher, but I suppose ya gotta keep a balance to keep the ladies happy.
They also had this little gem. Thought it was pretty accurate.

Anyone else take the quiz? How did you score?
Also, I will be announcing the winner of the comment contest very soon…

Last week I started a new section called Design Breakdown. This week I am pleased to announce the next “new thing” for the site, Designer Interviews.
The idea of having an interview is to get the thoughts of the true professionals out there and take their pulse on the various topics of the day. Today’s interview is with Daniel Mall (www.danielmall.com). He is a prolific designer and has worked for some of the biggest names on the web.
So without further ado…here is the interview. Read the rest of this entry »

So when I stumbled onto Threadless about 6 - 8 months ago, I found the “Haiku” shirt and I thought it was hilarious. Great story.
Well the sad part was it was sold out and has been till now! Yea!
So I finally was able to purchase my Haiku shirt. Go me.

So if you read my article yesterday you might be a bit confused about this one. Why would someone who doesn’t get the whole reboot thing, have a post about the best reboot sites?
Well, I am glad you asked. Jon responded to my request for someone to explain the whole reboot thing. Here was his comment:
it’s a great way to get a lot of free advertisment if you do a good job. like a trade show, people show up because they know they’ll have access to a lot of people that are tooling about, specifically looking for something to get excited about.
internet foot trafic
That is a great answer, and made me realize that the reboot is kinda like a contest, where the prize is getting traffic to your site because of your new design. So I figured today that I would do my part for the community and give a little traffic to those sites that I liked for one reason or another.
So here we go, after looking through the vast majority of the sites from the two reboot sites, here are the ones that I liked the most (in no particular order).
