what is creativeUI?
creativeUI is simply a site that focuses on the user interface. I talk about trends, tools, and other goodies for all types of interfaces both online and off.
aren’t there about a bajillion sites just like this one?
Possibly, but their author’s aren’t nearly as sexy, but more importantly:
- creativeUI isn’t purely web focused.
While I love the web, there are a lot of amazing things coming down the pipe for desktop apps that should not be missed. I plan on looking into those as much as the latest CSS template, AJAX trick, or javascript doodad.
- this site is for anyone interested in UI.
Some sites out there are a bit daunting because they seem a bit exclusive. The design community is a close-knit group and if you aren’t a part of it, then it can seem a bit overwhelming. My goal is to make everyone from those who think Zeldman is a popular Nintendo character to the pixel ninjas out there feel comfortable asking questions, making comments, and getting involved. So no matter how much experience and talent you have, this is the place for you.
- community
Everyone has an opinion. You may think that Microsoft is the devil and that Ruby rules the universe, while another person can’t get enough of Silverlight and Xaml. What brings both together is that they are both building and creating something. That, in essence, is the beauty of UI development. Its in your face, it makes a difference, and is great for those who need immediate gratification (*raises hand*). creativeUI is the place to learn about what is here, what is coming, and to react accordingly.
who is the man behind the curtain?
creativeUI is the brain child of David Baxter. By day he serves as a UI developer who codes complex desktop applications and web services. By night he designs and develops websites of varying complexity. He is the owner of the web development firm Visionary Online (and yes, you can hire me), and is an avid reader of just about all user interface technologies. His biggest pet peeve is when people assume that developers can’t design and vice-versa.Outside of work David is a proud father and husband who lives in Raleigh, NC. When everyone is sleeping, he reads and plays way too many video games.
